DISPLAY.EXE UPDATES
21st OCTOBER 1991
This suite of programs comprises the following updates
DISPLAY4.EXE Version 4.2
DISPLAY5.EXE Version 5.1
PLEASE NOTE !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DISPLAY5.EXE DOES NOT Supersede DISPLAY4.EXE
Display5 is a derivative of Display4 SPECIALLY written using
BIOS calls direct to the VGA Adaptor. DISPLAY5 is specifically
for those computers that for various reasons are NOT compatible
with the Graphics Driver used in Display4. The overall display
performance is much slower, however IT WORKS. Consequently those
amateurs who to date, have been unable to view the CCD Pictures
using DISPLAY*.EXE can now do so.

DISPLAY4.EXE
The update of Display4 Version 4.2 includes the following:
1. Correction of the Exposure Time Routine to correctly express
the time in UTC. It was brought to my attention that programs
using a SET TZ= command were displaying an incorrect exposure
time. Now the program resets TZ when entering the program and
resets back to its 'normal setting' upon exiting DISPLAY*.EXE.
2. For convenience the Brightness increment has been reduced to
10 from 20.
3. The overall contrast increment has been reduced to 02 Hex.
4. For correct operation the BGI driver SVGA256.BGI must be in
the same directory as DISPLAY4.EXE

DISPLAY5.EXE
As stated previously this "version of Display4" uses BIOS calls.
Therefore instead of SVGA256.BGI a configuration file SPECIAL.CFG
must be included in the same directory as DISPLAY5.EXE
The SPECIAL.CFG included is for my specific VGA Adaptor.
To setup SPECIAL.CFG for your adaptor, refer to your VGA Adaptor
Manual and ascertain what value (in Hex) is required to select the
640x480x256 display mode. You should find the relevant information
under the heading EXTENDED VGA MODES.
My adaptor is the MVGA-89 and the information quoted in my manual is
Mode Type Colors Screen Size
5b Graphic 16/256 ......... 800x600
5c Graphic 256/256 640x400
5d Graphic 256/256 640x480
5e Graphic 256/256 800x600
5f Graphic 16/256 1024x768
In my case as shown in SPECIAL.CFG I have included 5d. If you have a
monitor that will display 800x600 I would recommend 800x600, which
appears to exhibit a better grey tonal appearance. If you place your
adaptor into 800x600 remember to include the 800 option in the
command line when commencing DISPLAY5, otherwise it will only display
640x480 pixels of picture but in 800x600 display.
eg: DISPLAY5 IM0012 800
There are two lines in SPECIAL.CFG, the first being a password that
was included for beta testing. This must be included in the file.
Any general purpose text editor can be used to edit the .CFG file.

The Document File DISPLAY4.DOC is applicable to both DISPLAY4.EXE and
DISPLAY5.EXE
I would appreciate some feedback from users who have to use DISPLAY5
and whether they find the program usefull. From experiments conducted
I estimate the performance (displaying speed) is 30 to 40% of
DISPLAY4.
